Practicing Group Roles

A cyclone hit the Pacific and an island lost all of its homes. We had to design and construct a house which would stand alone and shelter two people.

We were allowed newspaper, tape and  scissors

We had to choose in our teams who would be the:

• Collector and collect all the materials and tidy up afterwards.
• Recorder and write down the group's ideas and draw plans.
• Leader who makes sure everyone has a job and carries them out.
• Team member who shares ideas and materials.
• Reporter who reports back how their group solved the problem and worked together.

Up the Moeawatea

Christmas up the Moeawatea

On the 23.12.2011 Mum ,Dad ,Craig , Kano ,Charlotte ,Dan, Charlie and I went into the Moeawatea [out the  back  of Waverley] . We went by car and then by motorbikes and the Troopy because it is a dirt track. 

We went into the Moe for Christmas because we enjoy it and Kano, Charlotte, Charlie and Dan come from New Zealand but live in Hong Kong. Craig comes from  Oamaru where dad was born. Dan`s only 4 and he`s really funny because of his accents.

I got some Barbie doll  clothes, a pea shooter, a flying thing and some other things.

We went on some big walks. We went up to the pine tree along the ridge track and down the big long hill. Charlie has a DS lite . It  is really fun to play with. I now have my own DSI. Soon we had to leave . I went  on the  motorbike  with Craig and Dan. Kano rode the two wheeler. Dad, Mum, Charlotte and Charlie went in the Troopy.

Going To Splash Planet

I had to wake up early in the morning because me and my family were going to Napier for two nights.  I was very excited because we were also going to Splash Planet. 

I had my breakfast and got dressed and then we left.  It was very boring travelling in the car and there were lots of traffic because it was the holidays and it was really hot in the car.  We stopped in a small town and had lunch from a bakery.  I had sandwiches and hot chips it was yummy.

 After lunch we got back in the car and kept on travelling.  Finally we arrived in Napier and we went to a few shops.  After that we went to the motel.  That night we went to  a restaurant it was called GKL. After we had finished eating we went back to the motel and went to sleep. 

In the morning we went to Splash planet. 

We had to wait for ages to get in because the line was so long.  Finally we got in and I went on the water slides first with my brother and sister.  I also went on mini jeeps that you had to drive.  That was really fun.  Then I went on the flying fox that was awesome.  After that I went and watched my brother and sister on the racing cars they went a lot faster than the mini jeeps.

 After that I went on the train with my Mum and Dad it took you the whole way round Splash planet.  I also played mini golf with my brother and sister and that was really hard but it was still fun. 

Then we left Splash planet and went back to the motel.  We went to a restaurant.  I had yummy fish and chips and I had ice-cream and jelly for pudding.  After dinner and pudding we went back to the motel.  We watched TV for a while.  Then went to sleep.  In the morning we went back home. 

I enjoyed going to Napier.

Going back to Australia, leaving us very sad.

This is the last day Luka and Olive are coming to Fordell school. We have had a great year with them at our school and we have been very lucky that they chose our school to come to.

Room 2 enjoyed having their friendship  and helping them settle into school life in New Zealand.

They worked hard, always did their best and made a lot of progress in their school work. They are both really good at sport and did very well in all the sports they participated in and even played rep. Hockey for Wanganui and they’d never played hockey before they came here.

Their Mum and Dad were resident Artists in Tiley Cottage for the Sergeant Gallery. They have an amazing exhibition in the gallery at the moment of their year's work in New Zealand. Now they are going back to Australia to carry on doing amazing things with their art and supporting other artists.

We are going to miss them and their family very much and we wish them all the best for their new adventures back in Australia and hope they keep enjoying school as much as they have here.

What really happened to Spy's Eye

Spy’s eye got kicked by a cattlebeast and it clouded over. Dad just left it so it got worse. Then, two weeks ago his other eye clouded over. Another one of our dogs, Bloke, had been weeing blood so he had to go to the vet so we took Spy as well. Spys eye that didn’t get kicked wasn’t that bad so the vet just put some green dye in it. The original one, however, was so bad that his third eyelid had to be stitched up so the blood would flow and the eye would naturally heal. In three weeks time we going back to the vet so he can cut the stitches.

Staying at Lake Ferry

My   family   and   me   went  to  Lake Ferry on  the  22  January. Our  house  where we stayed was   number  112.

When   we  got   there   Granny  was  standing  on  the  deck.  We    where  watching  a

Movie in the car   when   she  said ,  “Hello”.  Then  we   hoped  out  of   the  car.  We   gave   Granny  a   hug.   We  went   inside   then   we     were    flabbagasted   to  see   such   a   clean   house.   

We   sat  down    on   the  chair and couch to watch  some   tennis.  Then   we  went     out   side and   we  jumped  over  a  mini  trampoline. We did it 100 times. Then we were hot and bothered. 

We stayed two nights and we enjoyed that holiday a lot.

Spy's Eye

Spy (one of dad’s dogs) went to the vet because he had a sore eye. I took a photo of Spy looking at me (Dad let me play on his phone). Spy was locked up in a kennel  with some food and a towel. The vet looked closely at spy`s eye. He looked up. “Stiches” he said.

His eye got fixed and he was  as good as new.

Starting 2012

Here we working in room 2 again for another year. We are busy writing about ourselves and using different crayon techniques for illustrating our writing about ourselves.

 Ronan is very pleased with his work.

The state of our neglected gardens.

Look what happened to our vegetable gardens over the summer holidays !  We have new garden tools and seeds to sew which we bought with the money we won with our scare crows in the Mitre 10 competition. We now have to get hot and bothered getting all the weeds out first before we can sew another seed.
