Tabloid Sports By Lauren P

On Monday we had tabloid sports! Though it was a house challenge. We have 4 houses, Miro , Kowhai, Rata and Tawa!!! Two ladies from the ASB came so we could thank them for giving money to the school so we could buy house t-shirts.
The first part of the competition was saying our house chants. Next we split up into two groups. One was year fours  and down and they had to play rob the nest. The year fives and up had to play bench ball. I am in Tawa and we won against Miro and Kowhai, but we lost to Rata. Rata ended up winning bench ball and I only know that Tawa lost in rob the nest.
The other activity was an obstacle course but Tawa lost in that too.
The last activity was on the next day. It was tug of war. each house played each other and it turned out that Tawa won that!!! The points from that made a tie for first place. Rata and Kowhai had to do a best to three in tug of war. Kowhai won one and Rata won two putting Rata in first place! I like Tawa the best because I'm in it!!

My Water Colour Painting by Keegan

Last Tuesday a lady called Andrea came to school. She brought water colour  to Fordell. I think my water colour painting is pretty well done, I like others too.
Our colours to use  were purple, blue, black, yellow, brown, green and red. I think everybody did well. We went through lots of process to do the painting, you had to do a practice, we had to use a square piece of paper with a big hole in it to see the view to paint and then we painted. It was very complicated. If you wanted to make a cloud you had to leave the paper white. We put some of the painting on our class wall. I had a great time!!!

Swimming with Cecile By Lauren

One cold Friday morning we had to walk down to the pool and go swimming! We had a swimming instructor called Cecile, come down and teach us how to be safe in the pool. It was freezing cold and most people hopped out early, but not me! My favourite part was when we had to make a tail by holding each others waist and run to the other side of the pool. Then the person at the front had to try and catch the tail. It was lots of fun and I enjoyed making a whirl pool in the small pool.

My poem by Bridie

We wrote acrostic poems in poetry, this is mine.

Dashing through your head,
Reflections from the day,
Eating all you like in your dreams ,
A moment of peace,
Magical spaces,
Softly floating.

Wanganui pictures by Kayla and Rebekah

Our Wanganui pictures are of buildings in Wanganui, our favourite places to go. Firstly we drew our pictures of the buildings. It was hard for Rebekah. Next we had to go over the pencil lines in vivid. Then we coloured our pictures with dye. We let it dry. After it had dried, Miss Whitwell stapled them to the wall above the computers. Please come and see our amazing Wanganui pictures!!!

Swimming Sports by Keegan

On Friday I was very excited because swimming sports was on. I did one length and two widths and a display, it was very tiring. After everyone was done swimming we got a free swim. I didn't stay in for long but then I remembered it was Friday, I was very happy.  I went home with Mum, that was the best day  this year.

For poetry we read two acrostic poems. One was about ice-cream and the other one was about school. Acrostic poems are when you write the subject downwards and you write something across for each letter. It has to be about the subject. I did two. One about pink and the other about my house at school, Tawa. Here is one of mine.
Perfect colour for girls!

The stingrays are practicing gliding and floating. The seahorses are learning how to float and glide and are trying to get used to the cold. The other day I swam a length. Art By Lauren

This term we have drawn, painted, dyed and coloured lots already. We drew some continuous line drawings of our faces. They were supposed to look a bit weird so they were interesting. Next we coloured them in and dyed them. Another piece of art we did was our name monsters. We did them last year but this time we added eyes hands and feet. My favourite bit of art was our Wanganui pictures of things that are meaningful to us. We drew them, went over with sharpie and then dyed them. I can't wait to do some more art because now we're doing big pictures of the  Chinese myth Pangu.

What I Have Enjoyed So Far In Term 1 By Tineisha

Summer is a great season but so hot! Luckily we have the Fordell pool open because it is so refreshing and it is not too cold, it is just right.
We have learned about Iran and Japan and how they celebrate New Year. Japan celebrate New Year by  making fans and they would hang them on there door. Iran celebrated New Year by planting little gardens, instead of making gardens we planted grass in little containers. I have enjoyed growing our grass for our hair.We have done art like our name monsters and continuous line drawings .  We have had a great start to the term.
