Our Assembly Item

On Friday we shared some of our space work. We played the 'Star Wars ' theme in between each group's presentations. The first group shared our Space travel advertisements that we had made for homework. The second group shared postcards we had written from space to our parents, imagining we were on a different planet, the last group shared the aliens we had made from plasticine. To finish our item we sang the Planet Rap. We did a great job and our audience enjoyed themselves.

Making Planes

As part of looking at flight today we made our own paper planes. We used different types of paper, and different  designs. Some had wide wings, others were very narrow. Adam mad a square shape with lots of folds.  We lined up on the court and had a 'plane off' . We made sure we were all on the same line and throwing the same way. Our winners were Libby, Rebekah and Seth, each of theirs went a long way- but in a different style. Seth's was a fast flyer, Rebekah's was acrobatic and did swoops and Libby's  flew straight.

Making Parachutes

Att eh end of last week we had a go at making parachutes. We have been looking at the ideas of floating, gliding and soaring. First we compared papers, flat and crumpled then we made our parachutes out of plastic bags.  We made big ones, small ones, square, round, ones with little slits and ones without. We used a paper clip as a result. We had a parachute drop to compare results.

Sadako and the Cranes

Last week, as it was Hiroshima day, we watched, read and discussed the events of the first Atomic bomb drop.  We heard the story of Sadoko and Cranes and we watched a clip showing us how to make cranes. We all made a paper crane, some with more success than others.  Some of us went home and made more, tiny ones, big ones, colourful ones. The more we made the better we got.

Andy Warhol Art Work

In the afternoons, while some Room 2 people are working on the Science fair or Production, the rest have joined with Room 1 to work on various activities with their blogs. This week we looked at the artist Andy Warhol and the effects he created with photos and colour. We took our own photos, some of us struck a pose, then using the befunky app we  tried different effects on our photo. Once we had 4 we liked, we uploaded them into a publisher document, framed, cropped and titled them. They look really colourful. If you want to see more - check out our individual blogs!

Reflection by John

One week over..... 8 to go...
The good thing about being back at school is seeing all my friends and cracking straight into work.
I am looking forward to cross country and house challenges.
The challenge for me this term will be completing all my work on time.

Reflection by Caitlin

Last term I enjoyed maths because it's not hard to learn and if I needed help the teacher would help me. I enjoyed writing because I am getting into linking my writing and I think I am getting neater too. Reading also is my favourite subject because I am getting faster and better. I have loved soccer because it has been challenging and fun. My goals are to get better at reading, writing, and maths.

One week over....8 to go....
The good thing about being back at school is playing with my friends and getting straight back to work.
This term I'm looking forward to all the sport and some of the big events that are coming up  which will be awesome.
My challenge this term will be the science fair because its going to be quite hard getting all the information together.
