Amazing Science! by Renee

On Monday mornning in room 2 we did Science. Every table got 6 test tubes which all had the indicator in it ,cabbage juice, there were 6 kitchen chemicals that we got to add to the cabbage juice and see what  would happen. After that we tried to turn the all the colours that we had just made to the color that we started with, purple. Unfourtunately my group was not succesful at doing this and made a few test tubes fizz up and over flow. My favourite part was when I poured vinegar into one of the test tubes and it fizzed up!

Science by Larissa

This morning room 2 did science. My favorite part was mixing the liquids together and seeing what colour they made. I learnt that baking soda can clean.

This morning we did science with Ms. Whitwell, we used test tubes, we started off with cabbage juice then we added either lemon juice, dish washing liquid, baking soda or toilet cleaner. My favourite part was mixing them together , most of them just changed colour and if you added the wrong one it fizzed up.

This morning we learnt about accids, bases and neutrals. We got put into groups and got six test tubes on a rack. First there was cabbage juice in them. We had to tip in baking soda, vinegar, toilet cleaner, soap, lemon juice and dish washer liquid. By the time we'd finished we had a mix of different colours. Then we had to try and make a neutral. I learnt that if you have a base and you want to turn it into a neutral you have to tip in an
acid. My favourite part was when we had to tip something into the cabbage juice and got to see how it reacted.

Trevor Shailer - Guest Speaker

Today Trevor Shailer, an Olympian athlete came to Fordell School and shared his 'story' with us.
He was not just an interesting speaker but entertaining! He used great expression and actions while he talked. Sometimes he was funny! We learnt  a lot about him, his childhood and his experiences that led to him becoming a boxer. We enjoyed hearing that his coach referred to him as a' flash thoroughbred'.  He won 143 fights out of 177.We also learnt a lot about his experience of the 1992 Olympics. His loss in just 9 minutes and how that led him to go onto attend, but not participate, at many more Olympic games.
Ella found him inspiring. Bridgitte felt he represented the importance of following your dreams. Lauren heard the importance of having a goal and working towards it. Bridie said its all about perseverance!

Gallipoli by Christian

Out of my trench I can see guns firing and dust going in peoples eyes. I am shooting a sniper gun. There are dead bodies all over and there are only six people left. It is quiet because all of the men went to the beach for a quick swim.

Life in the wars by Bridgitte

Out of the boat I can see the sparkling golden sand covering the beach, above, the straw high cliff edge is surrounding the beach. Wild, deadly bullets attack from above and suddenly the wonderful sand is stained in the ruby red blood with falling bodies. The clear navy sky darkens and turns into a shady miserable grey. Brave soldiers dodge the bullets crazily out of control. Heading for the trenches the lucky men are still being watched.

Gallipoli by Jaida

Out my small trench I can see rusty charcoal guns laying across the rocky beach. I see the grave yard were the dead soldiers are buried. Up on the hills are the enemies trenches. I am out of my trench and I can see the blood from the soldiers stretching across the golden rocky beach. I can see up on the hills the Turks waiting for another attack. The boats are arriving with the food and some cards from our families.

World War 1, Gallipoli, By Rebekah

Off the boat I can see ruby red blood flowing through the water below. The trail of blood leads to a beach of golden sand. The dead soldiers lie in peace in the tan dust. Deadly, charcoal guns fire in every path. Wild bullets are flying like lightning bolts. The clear, ivory shrapnel is sprinkled all over the beach and up above the  thunder rocky cliff. The evil tone of Turkish soldiers are loading up ebony bombs. Above, The sapphire sky just stands there up high in the sky while big cream clouds float past.  The stench is unbearable off the bodies. The sight is a deadly fight in Gallipoli.

Gallipoli by John

From my cramped trench I can see flaming blood streaked across the sandy beach. The rocky hills are chocolate brown and are covered in deadly shrapnel. It is extremely squished in our cold muddy trench. The graveyard is heartbreaking and a few poppies are starting to sprout. Biscuit crumbs are scattered across wet dirt. More and more battle ships are coming to Gallipoli and giving us food and water. I am terrified because tonight I have to stay up all night and keep on guard.

Gallipoli by Michael

From the boat I can see polished charcoal guns.Beside the polished charcoal guns I can see smelly, dead Turkish bodies.Under the smelly, dead Turkish bodies I can see the blood red sand. The blood red sand leads to the wet, rocky hills. On top of the wet, rocky hills I can see dirty brown trenches.Outside of the dirty brown trenches I can see big dirty sand bags.

Gallipoli by Ella

From my crowded boat I can see smelly dead bodies lying in flame red blood.
I can see dry dusty ground.
I can see hard working soliders.
I can see horrible gray rocky hills.
From my boat I can see soliders peeping out of their small trenches.
I can see soliders tryng to dodge the deadly bullets.
I can see the brown sandbags that are meant to protect us..
I hate Gallipoli.

Gallipoli by Anna

Out my trench I can see the mind blowing ruby red sea. Out my small trench I can see  all the dead body's lying on the sandy beach . Looking  out of my trench  I can see my enemies  up in the hills

Gallipoli By George

From the boat I can see a streak of blood stretching across the sand. I can also see bullet flying past me . I can see  bodies lying on the beach body on body. I can also see my claustrophobic trench. I can't wait to get home. I can see  the charcoal gun getting  smaller by the minute

Gallipoli by Adam

In the trench I can see the rocky wall with shiny ruby blood smeared on it.
It feels muddy, dusty and dirty.
The smell of dead rotten people fills my nostrils.
Very loud shouting and screaming echoes through the walls of the trenches.
Loud screams of bullets rain over the battle field.
In the trench I can feel  mud, sweat and blood and I can feel my feet rotting in my shoes.
In the trench I feel cramped and squished.

What was life like in the war? by Renee

From my trench I can see a flowing river of rosy red blood from the soldiers that have been wounded or killed. I'm surrounded by the smell of stinky gross dead bodies in the muddy,  wet, brown ground. The only thing I can hear is the loud noise of gunshots from the turks polished charcoal guns. Up above me I can see a tower of rocky cliffs. There is no where to hide!

Through the window By Ethan

Through the window I see a cool reflection in the  blue river.
In the reflection I see a dazzling, creamy, white moon. In the sky I see a dim, orange sunset. Below, on land, I see charcoal trees .

Out my window by Loulou

Out my window I can see a big windy gold road.
Beside the road  there is nice fresh green grass.
Above the road there is a big blue summer sky
On the grass there are big spring trees.

In the bush by Caitlin

Out my window I can see  beautiful bush,  branches and water, rocks and  rocky ground are through it and the sunshine comes through. Out my window I can see millions of silver ferns
.Out my window I can see green grass, flowing water, green rocks, I can see branches across the water, a water fall. Out my window I can see lots of spring trees with moss clinging.

Rocky forest by Grace

In through the bushes I can see the olive  moss on the slimy rocks. In between the rocks the ivory
water flies past. The morning light gives it an amazing shine. Up above, the tan vines swing. The fish underneath the water are little and  their  glossy colours swim through the creek.  Everywhere thin brown sticks lie.

The Night River by Bridgitte

Through the window I can see the winter white moon gleaming on the quiet navy river. In the shadows, the dark ebony forest appears with its clear reflection dancing on the river. The hills are
polished black, hiding in the cool foggy shadows.

We go to Room 3 so they can get better at typing and writing. We get better at communicating and co-operating and we have to really think about punctuation and grammar!

Mountain pictures by Tineisha and Ella

Over the last few weeks we have been drawing our mountain pictures. Ms Whitwell read us the story about the warrior mountains. We got into pairs then we made an outline with pencil, then we drew over it with white chalk. After that we coloured them in with pastels of our choice. After they were all finished Ms Whitwell inked them and the chalk turned black. They look great!

Maori Mountains Myth By Lauren And Bridgitte

At the end of term 1we listened to Ms Whitwell tell us a story called The Battle Of The Mountains. We had to get into pairs and design our mountain pictures. Soon chalk went on our pictures and we were ready to pastel. Colour, colour, colour, now our arms were getting tired. Some magnificent pictures were being made! After, we watched Ms Whitwell destroy our pictures with Indian Ink. Luckily she scraped it off and our pictures were still looking fabulous! Every one is pleased with their mountain pictures.

Duathlon by Gemma and Rebekah

The last Friday of term  the whole Fordell School did a duathlon. A duathlon is when you have to run, bike and run again. Rebekah and I were both in the duathlon in the same race. We both did a great job. First the year 1 and 2 went. Then the year 3 and 4, they were very competitive. After those two races,  it was Rebekah's and my race. We had to bike along Budge Street and around the field. The year 7 and 8 had a tough bike along Budge Street twice but they all finished with smiles on their faces. Congratulations to everyone who competed. Go Fordell School!

Cluster Sports
