Our day in Palmerston North

Our senior school getting ready to leave for our big day out. The junior school went to John Bremner's in Feilding and did printmaking which is this term's Visual Arts focus.

We went to Palmerston North to see a stage production at the Regent Theatre by Capital E. It was spectacular and represented many values. Then we went to the Esplanade and played in the playground in the rain and ate our lunch. After that we went to the rugby museum at Te Manawa...it was fantastic. While we were ther one of the sailing boats from the opening of the rugby world cup arrived and was assembled. We also got to play in the ergonomically designed house at Te Manawa. We really enjoyed our day out full of new experiences.

The Day of the Scarecrows !!!

We have made 5 scarecrows, amongst our 3 classes, to try and win the $500 voucher from Mega Mitre 10 and also for the fun of it. We had Mums and Dads turn up (thank goodness) and give us a huge helping hand. We managed to spread 5 bails of hay and many bags of straw everywhere and thrilled our 2 lovely cleaners!! There was hay every where, all through the class rooms too. We took the left over hay out to the paddock for the sheep and it was so windy that as we let each armful go it blew for miles.

Cousin Arthur's Visit.

Russell wasn't well. He needed stitches and a bath so his cousin Arthur came to visit. Everyone enjoyed having cousin Arthur to show around and play with. It is good for us to care for someone else.

Student of the Week

Olive was our student of the week for always committing herself to doing well. She is very conscientious and goes the extra mile to meet challenges.

Farewell Maureen

We are very sad that our office administrator, Maureen, has left. She got an offer from the bank which she couldn't refuse. They knew how good she was too. We are going to miss her very much and wish her all the best in her new job.

Mr. Osmond gave a lovely speech about how valuable Maureen has been to us and the students gave her some very nice gifts to remember us by.

Fordell School Cross Country

Our class ready to run off on our school cross country. 

Eli came first, Luka second and Tom third. We were really proud of them. They will do well next Friday at the rural schools cross country at Mangamahu before going to Aranui school to compete in the Wanganui  primary school's cross country. Georgina, Olive, Rebekah and Tineisha were our fastest girls and are looking forward to the next competition.

Growing our own food

We are a zero waste school and we are also growing food. We have a challenge this week to eat a small amount of a vegetable that we don't usually eat because we think we don't like it. Yesterday we planted lettuce, spinach, parsley and sunflowers. We are going to plant carrots and peas next week.

Jump Jam

Every Tuesday and Friday mornings we do jump jam in the tin shed. It is a good aerobic work out and we really enjoy it. The other three days of the week we run for cross country training.

Olive and Luka's cousins from Australia, Kai and Bronte, came to spend some time with us at School. We enjoyed their visit and Bronte even participated in our assembly presentation.

World Cup Banner

We volunteered to make a banner for the Wanganui in Bloom Festival. It had to represent a country participating in the Rugby World Cup using their National Flower. We were given America and their National Flower is roses, particularly red and yellow ones. So we set about inventing ways of making roses with paper. We used all sorts of materials and then put it all together. It was a challenge.

The Amazing Snow

Sunday night it pored down with snow .On Monday I got up with excited. I got dressed straight away, went in the backyard and played in the snow. There was white everywhere. When Kyle got up I threw a huge snowball at him.

 When I got to school the field was covered in snow. When the others came we had a snow ball fight.

The snow was as white as a blanket of white paper. It was the best thing I every saw in my life.

I am looking forward to making a fort with Tom. When it’s finished we will have a snow ball fight.

Observational drawing.

Each week we are focusing on a different facial feature and doing observational drawings of them. We have started to put it together now and these are some examples of our first attempts. We then did quick mono prints to see how quickly we could use our knowledge of proportion.

You can also see that we are looking at Fordell school in the past, the changes we are making in the present and predicting where the school will go from here. We have several people to interview from the community who went to Fordell school, some of them a very long time ago but they still remember it clearly.

Values awards

Three people from each class received values awards this week. Allie, Bridie and Tineisha earned the awards from Room 2.

Confidence

Our class presented the value 'confidence' in assembly on Friday. We said when we feel confident and what we thought confidence means.

Neatest work this week.

Ella has the neatest work this week because she has worked hard on formation and even slope in her handwriting. She takes pride in how she presents her work.

Tineisha is student of the week

Tineisha is student of the week for always being helpful, looking for opportunities to help with class responsibilities, setting herself goals and achieving high standards. Well done Tineisha!!

Libby's Homework

Libby keeps her maths homework book very neatly. She got a pencil from Mr. Osmond in assembly last week for her neat work.

How I came to know there was snow

Monday 15 august

I woke up, went in to the kitchen ,looked out the

window and suddenly I actually woke up because I saw snow. I rushed into mum and dad’s room thinking snow then I blurted out “It`s snowed” and pulled open the curtains. Dad decided to stay in bed so he did but mum got up. She took quite a lot of photos. On the way to school we took some more photos. When I got to school. I played in the snow. It was cool but cold.

Monday 15 August

Dear Diary, It was snowing! I love snow! It’s white, powdery and when it snows it feels like it covers the whole world like a blanket of white. And, most of the school loved the snow as much as I did.

At school, before the bell rang some people headed out to the field to have a snowball fight. I hit Jonny with a snowball and he got really angry and pounded me with snowballs. But then the bell rang and we had to go inside. I glued in my homework and after that we headed outside again to take some photos of the snow. Mr Osmond rolled this giant snowball and Larissa and I stood on it.

 Click! Mrs Fraser took a photo to put on our class blog. Click, click! She took some pictures of two snowmen. Mrs Fraser is a good photographer.

Then we went inside and warmed up. I was sad because we   weren’t allowed to play in the snow at lunchtime. But, look on the bright side, there is supposed to be snow tomorrow!!!

Collecting Rubbers

Rebekah and Lauren's Mum collected rubbers when she was little so the girls brought them to school to show everyone because the girls in Studio Two are collecting rubbers too. It was interesting to see what sort of rubbers you could buy when Rebekah's Mum was at school.

Ella's Values Badge

Ella is the first person in our class and the second person at our school to get 10 values awards and qualify for her first values badge. You have to follow our school values and work hard to earn values points and Ella has. We were very proud of her when she got her badge in assembly on Friday.

Student of the week

Loulou got student of the week for making such good progress in maths and for enjoying maths so much now.

Poetry of the Week

Geordie was the poetry reader of the week because he read Peter Hawes poem with fluency and real expression.

Playing Drums

Lots of rural schools went to Kaitoke school to play the drums. It was really interesting. We had to copy the patterns which Johnny and Lucy did on their drums. We played duets, learnt to use our voices as part of the rhythm and made a lot of noise. It was a fun outing.
